When do I qualify for Health Insurance?

If you were hired into a full time position, you will be eligible for insurance within the first 3 months.  If you were hired into a part time position, you will be eligible for insurance in the 13th month. Example, if you were hired in January 2016, (month 1), then December is month 12 and your will qualify for insurance in January of 2017.

How many hours do I need for Health Insurance?

  • Full or part time new members in the first 48 months are in Plan B benefits. 25 hours per week qualifies for individual coverage that is for medical and pharmacy coverage with a $2,000.00 life insurance policy. 32 hours per week qualifies for full benefits and that includes, medical, pharmacy, vision, dental, short term disability and a $10,000.00 life Insurance policy.
  • Those hired after March 2004 but prior to June 22, 2011 plan A benefits and need to average 25   hours per week for individual coverage that is for medical and pharmacy with a $2,000.00 life insurance policy. Average 32 hours per week for family coverage that includes medical, pharmacy, vision, dental, short term disability and a $10,000.00 life insurance policy.
  • Those hired before March 9, 2004 need to average 16 hours per week for individual coverage with medical and pharmacy and 25 hours per week for family coverage including medical, pharmacy, vision, dental, and short term disability.

Do I get Personal Days?

How do I get from part time to full time?

The 14 retail companies have contracts that require working 40 hours a week in a calendar quarter.  (That is 40 hours a week every week for thirteen [13] consecutive weeks in a calendar quarter).

Why does my seniority change when my classification changes?

In the current Local 88 contracts there are separate classifications and each classification has a separate seniority list. Seniority only changes for classification not date of hire.

When can my schedule be changed?

Schedules can be changed up until 11:00 am on Friday of the preceding week.

How often can I change my availability?

Availability should only be changed 3-4 times a year.

Why did my weekly dues go up or change?

Most common reason is because of an hourly rate of pay increase.

When do I get a raise?

Raises are all set differently according to the current Union contract. For the answer to this question refer to Schedule “A” wages.

As I move up in seniority, do I get better scheduled shifts?

Not necessarily, seniority does not give priority to shift preference.

What do I do if I’m being treated unfairly?

Call your respective Union Representative to help with this treatment.

What do I do if I am being disciplined?

Always ask for Local 88 Union Representation: Your shop steward or a Local 88 Union Representative. DO NOT SIGN OR WRITE ANY STATEMENTS. If you feel this disciplinary action may lead to suspension or termination ask for your Weingarten Rights.

How do I file a grievance?

Call your respective Union Representative for guidance on filing a grievance.

Do I have to file a grievance at the union hall?

Yes, a grievance must be filed at the Local 88 Union Office located at 5730 Elizabeth Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63110.

How many breaks do I get and how long are they?

Under the current Local 88 contracts 1-15 minute break for each 4 hour shift.

 

If the time clock lets my punch in up to 7 minutes late, why are they telling me that I’m late when I get to my department?

The 7 minute grace period on a time clock is for being docked on your pay. Schedules are written for you to be in the department and ready to work. Getting into the department 7 minutes late means your coworker has to stay 7 minutes past the end of their shift.

Can I retire early?

Yes, but this question needs to be answered by a Union Representative on an individual basis.

How do I transfer to another department?

Only store directors can authorize department transfers.

 

How do I transfer to another store?

Contact your Union Representative to receive a transfer request form.

When do I need a withdrawal card?

When you have any loss of employment or will be off work for more than a calendar month.

How much will my pension benefit be?

All pension benefits have to be verified by the UFCW International Pension Fund. Please go to our Affiliates tab to log onto the UFCW International Pension Fund website.

How long do I have to work to get pension?

A minimum of 5 years is needed for a partial vesting and 10 years for a full vesting to receive a pension from the UFCW International Pension Fund.
